Welcome foreign visitors! As you may know, Singapore's currently tourism campaign is "Uniquely Singapore", which makes us a little, uh, different now. Thus by coming to our site, you may not understand certain "Uniquely Singaporean" terms. In order to ensure their meaning is fully grasped for the benefit of ALL. =D I will attempt to explain some terms. (100% accuracy is not guaranteed)
1)Holiday
Defined as a period of self-enforced studying and revision for students that is semi-compulsory, because if they refuse to do so, failure in the upcoming exams is expected. Occasionally, a trip to the movies or outings with friends are acceptable. The only perks are sleeping in and staying up, and uh...more time with your notes?
2)Notes
Something to be memorised front-to-back, back-to-front, and middle-back-front. It is expected to know exactly which word is the Nth word on the nth page when asked by a teacher.
3)Mugging
The process of memorsing notes till you know them like, well, (see above)
4)Mugger(s)
Person or persons who, mug of course.
4)Recess/Lunch break
A period for students to either
a) change into their uniforms from their Physical Education attire,
b) eat after queueing behind a mile of people, some of whom can "teleport" in front (more on this on friday/sat)
c)and copy or do the relevant homework that is required in the next period or two.
Some manage to cram a), b), AND c) into 50 mins.
5)National Day
A day to be celebrated with a schoolwide celebration like...just watch the (in)famous video
